Beauty Revealed
Sarah Goodridge

I was idly scrolling when I saw a video crediting Sarah Goodridge with sending the first nude. She carefully painted this delicate image of her breasts onto a 6.7×8cm piece of ivory and gave it to frequent sitter of hers after the death of his wife.
The girl really knew how to make a move.
She draped the edges of her image with fluffy gauze to hide her face, keeping the image anonymous apart from an identifiable mole- like a tiny signature.
Her piece of ivory was a very similar size to the blank ID cards. How interesting. Can you paint on PVC? Is it similar to ivory?

At first I was disappointed when the reference photos I took had the pressure marks from my heavy-duty, ugly-but-practical bra but then I realised that it was something I hadn't seen portrayed with that honesty before. I realised this could bring a novel element to the work compared with the original. Rather than making an object for the male gaze as Goodridge did- an idealised, perfected, packaged vision of her body. Mine in contrast will reflect the beauty of reality- the freedom I have found while dating women to turn up in my body without artifice or pretence and without apology
