Rachael Eden: Painter
Rachael Eden was born in Whitley Bay in North Tyneside and studied at the University of Brighton, receiving her BA Hons in Fine Art Painting in 2015. She is currently a studio holder at The NewBridge Project, Newcastle and co-director of Creative Workshops NE CIC.
Eden is a painter, making medium-large works on canvas, exploring themes of memory and queerness. She often uses found photos as a catalyst for her work; finding edges and draping washes of paint over and around them. Colour is also of great importance in the work, the interplay of juicy brights with muted pastels alongside stomach-churning ochres encourages a push-pull through the layers of the work. Oscillating between seduction and repulsion.
